Board of Directors Meeting

Monday, May 5, 2003, 7:30 p.m.

 

The Board of Directors of Kutztown Area School District met for the workshop board meeting on Monday,  May 5, 2003, 7:30 p.m., in the Maxatawny Elementary School Multi-purpose room pursuant to due notice to board members and the public.

Call to Order   The meeting was called to order at 7:47 p.m. by President Vymazal

 

Welcome         President Vymazal welcomed guests and opened the meeting with a moment of silence and

                        Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.  He asked that everyone sign the attendance book and mark their concern next to their name.  He requested that anyone wishing to speak on an agenda item please raise his/her hand to be recognized. This meeting was tape recorded.

 

Student            Matt Cullen introduced the TSA students and their achievements at the recent PA State

Recognition     Technology Convention. Certificates and cougar pins were presented by Dr. Winkler.

Personnel       Motion made by Kent Dahlquist, seconded by Patricia Bealer, to approve the following  

personnel items:
1. Approval for Kim Grasso, clerical aide, to take an unpaid leave of absence beginning April 21, 2003 for the balance of School Year 2002-2003.
2. Approval of Lisa Gump as long-term substitute clerical aide (35 hours/week) during Kim Grasso’s leave of absence beginning May 6, 2003 for the balance of School Year 2002-2003 at the substitute rate of $8.00 per hour plus a proration of sick days equivalent to that of a 100% aide.
3. Approval of Doug Hatch, Andrea Jones, and Adelaide Muth as substitute teachers effective April 22, 2003 through the end of School Year 2002-2003 at the current substitute teacher rate.
4. Approval of Denise Elshahed and Jonathan Haggar as guest teachers effective       April 22, 2003 through the end of School Year 2002-2003 at the current substitute teacher rate.
5. Approval of Kim Randolph as a substitute aide effective May 6, 2003 through the end of School Year 2002-2003 at the current substitute aide rate.
6.  Approval of Diane Thomason as a VanLear bus driver for School Year 2002-2003.

All Personnel Are Approved Pending the District’s Receipt of All Mandated Credentials.

 

Policy              Motion made by Patricia Bealer to vote on all three policies in the same motion.

Approvals       Motion not carried due to lack of a second.

 

Motion made by Patricia Bealer, seconded by William Yurvati to approve the second reading and adoption of attached new Policy #209.1 – Do Not Resuscitate Orders.

Motion made by William Yurvati, seconded by Patricia Bealer to approve the first reading of attached revised classified employee Policy #537 – Vacation.

Bus Route       Motion made by Patricia Bealer, seconded by William Yurvati, to approve the attached

Revisions        bus route revisions for School Year 2002-2003.

Testing            Standardized Testing Schedule for School Year 2003-2004.

BCTC               of the Berks Career and Technology Center’s General Program for the period July 1, 2003

Budget             to June 30, 2004 as set forth in the attached summary.

PSBA Policy   Motion made by Dennis Ritter, seconded by Kent Dahlquist, to authorize the enrollment

Maintenance   of the Kutztown Area School District in the PSBA Policy Maintenance Program at a cost

Program          of $800 per year.

Middle School Motion made by William Yurvati, seconded by Patricia Bealer, to modify the middle school

Language Arts language arts curriculum whereby all classes shall be heterogeneous.

Donation          Motion made by Kent Dahlquist, seconded by James Kramer, to donate $250 to the Kutztown

                        Fire Company for their assistance in changing light bulbs and rewiring of stadium light fixtures.

 

Motion made by Kent Dahlquist, seconded by James Kramer, to amend the previous motion to include free passes to all athletic events for School Year 2003-2004 for fire company and borough volunteers that helped with this project.

AP Exam         Motion made by Carl Ziegler, seconded by Kent Dahlquist, to authorize the district to

Payments        reimburse AP exam costs for a score of 4 or better for those students not enrolled in the AP

class for which they are taking an AP exam. The students will pay exam costs up-front and be reimbursed after scores are finalized. The district will not be responsible for other fees such as late fees.
