Board of Directors Meeting

Monday, January 7, 2002, 7:30 p.m.

 

The Board of Directors of Kutztown Area School District met for the workshop board meeting on Monday,

January 7, 2002, 7:30 p.m., in the Middle School Commons pursuant to due notice to board members and the public.

 

Present           Patricia Bealer, Kent Dahlquist, James Kramer, Dennis Ritter, Don Vymazal, William Yurvati, Ben Haas

 

Absent             Donald Meyers, Dale Reppert, Carl Ziegler

Call to              The meeting was called to order at 7:40 p.m. by President Vymazal.

Order

 

Welcome         President Vymazal welcomed guests and opened the meeting with a moment

                        of silence and Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.  He asked that everyone sign the attendance book and mark their concern next to their name.  He requested that anyone wishing to speak on an agenda item please raise his/her hand to be recognized.  This meeting was tape recorded.

 

Presentation   Sharon Mast of the United Way presented the Asset Development Program. Forty (40)

                        Assets have been cited as the keys to successful youth development. The United Way has

                        taken a pro-active stance to get the word out to Berks County communities, churches,

                        schools, etc. through informative programs. She would like the Middle School to get involved.

                        An action plan is currently being developed for the Middle School’s involvement in the

                        program.

 

Personnel       Motion made by Patricia Bealer, seconded by William Yurvati, to approve the following

Personnel items #1-#6:

1.  Ratification of Deborah Kriger’s (full-time, non-certified aide) start date to be
     December 7, 2001 instead of January 2, 2002 as previously approved.
2.  Resignation of Catherine A. Schoch, part-time cafeteria worker, effective
     January 11, 2002.
3.  Resignation of Kelli Fusaro as pop group director effective January 31, 2002.
4.  Approval of a part-time (10-15 hours per week) special education aide for elementary life
     skills support class due to an additional student.
5.  Permission is requested for the administration to hire for the new part-time aide position
     with ratification at a future board meeting.
6.  Ratification to add Amy Walton to the approved 2001-2002 substitute teacher list at the
     current substitute teacher rate, effective December 20, 2001.

All Personnel Are Approved Pending the District’s Receipt of All Mandated Credentials.

 

Additional        Motion made by William Yurvati, seconded by Kent Dahlquist, to approve John Massaro as

Tax Study        an additional Tax Study Committee Member.

Motion carried.

 

Bus Route       Motion made by Kent Dahlquist, seconded by Patricia Bealer, to approve the attached

Revision          revised route for Bus #3 effective January 7, 2002.

Motion carried unanimously.

 

Van                 Motion made by Kent Dahlquist, seconded by Dennis Ritter, to accept the van bids opened

Bids                January 4, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. as detailed on the attached bidder sheet.

Motion carried unanimously.

 

2000-2001       Motion made by Kent Dahlquist, seconded by William Yurvati, to approve the attached list

Budget             of budget transfers for School Year 2000-2001 effective June 30, 2001.

Motion carried.

 

Tax                  Motion made by Dennis Ritter, seconded by Kent Dahlquist, to renew tax forgiveness of

Forgiveness    Kutztown Area School District Real Estate Taxes of the Louisa Gonser Community

                        Library, Inc., PIN 55-5443-12-97-2058, for Fiscal Year 2001.

Executive        Motion made by William Yurvati, seconded by Patricia Bealer, to enter into an executive

Session           session to discuss legal matters at 9:05 p.m.

Motion carried unanimously.

 

The Board reconvened at 9:44 p.m.

 

Adjournment   Motion made by William Yurvati, seconded by Patricia Bealer, to adjourn the meeting at

                        9:45 p.m.
