The 6th grade Curricular Unit on Keith Haring has been taught for over 11 years in conjunction with the students’ study of the DARE Program. DARE represents: Drugs and Alcohol Resistance Education. Keith Haring was an artist who created art based on about social issues. Students took an issue they learned through their DARE training and designed a visual representation of that issue utilizing Keith’s style of art.  Students also created a marker vase representational piece like his Sculpture Vase work. “The confrontation between the history of vase paintings and the contemporary approach of drawing with marker and the mixture of contemporary and ancient symbols produces an ironic mixture of opposites"–Keith Haring
