High School Named National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence
Date: September 24, 2020
KUTZTOWN AREA HIGH SCHOOL IS NAMED A 2020 NATIONAL BLUE RIBBON SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE
U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos today recognized 317 public and 50 non-public schools as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2020. The recognition is based on a school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.
Principal Barry Flicker is “honored to accept the Blue Ribbon Award on behalf of the Kutztown Area High School students, staff, and community members.” Kutztown is a community that takes pride in hard work and achievement. Principal Flicker and the staff are, “humbled and excited to be recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence.”
“Congratulations to this year’s National Blue Ribbon School awardees,” said Secretary DeVos. “It’s a privilege to recognize the extraordinary work you do to meet students’ needs and prepare them for successful careers and meaningful lives.”
The coveted National Blue Ribbon Schools award affirms the hard work of educators, families, and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content. Now in its 38th year, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has bestowed almost 10,000 awards to more than 9,000 schools. Schools are nominated by the state department of education and then complete a comprehensive application about school practices. Kutztown was nominated as Exemplary High Performing and is among the top schools in the nation and state.
School officials will represent Kutztown Area High School at a two-day virtual awards ceremony from Washington, D.C on November 12 and 13, 2020.
