Our mission is to provide safe and efficient transportation for all the students of the Kutztown Area School District.
The transportation department contracts with the Eshelman Bus Company. The KASD fleet consists of 6 school vans and the Eshelman fleet for KASD has 16 buses, 6 minibuses, and 2 school vans. There are approximately 40 daily and substitute bus and van drivers, who transport approximately 1400 students to public, non public, charter and special needs schools. On a daily basis our buses and vans travel over 3200 miles and make nearly 1300 bus stops. KASD is 99 square miles, the largest school district in terms of size in the county.
The transportation department establishes routes according to state law guidelines, which provide the safest school bus stop locations. Drivers are not permitted to change bus stop locations without the approval of the transportation office. Requests for bus stop changes must be addressed in a letter to the transportation department for consideration. Childcare request must be completed annually, no later than July 15th. All requests will be responded to in a timely manner. Driver’s who stop at illegal bus stops are in violation of Pa Motor Vehicle Code.
PARENTS AND GUARDIANS OF KINDERGARTEN AND FIRST GRADE STUDENTS
For the safety of your child, someone must be available at the bus stop, in the afternoon, to take the student off the bus. If there is no one available to take the student off at the bus stop, the student will be transported back to their home school. A parent, or guardian, will be responsible to pick their child up after they are dropped off at their home school.
**Please note that the person taking a student off the bus should be standing at the bus door so the driver can release the student. This is for the safety and well-being of your child**
