Food Service

  • The Kutztown Area School District is committed to providing our students with the best possible learning environment. Toward that end, we strive to offer food choices at breakfast and lunch that are appealing, affordable, and student accepted. All of our menus meet or exceed all federal and state mandates as well as the initiatives set forth in our wellness policy. Our Menus

We currently analyze each of our menus nutritionally, specifically targeting, among other things, calories from fat and saturated fat, total calories, vitamins C and A, and Iron. Our breakfast and lunch menus are designed to accommodate this analysis and provide students with the following choices:

Students may choose the following for breakfast at $1.50

    • Any one entrée as menued
    • Any one side dish
    • Any one milk

Students may choose the following for lunch at $2.60 for Elementary or at $2.85 for Secondary

    • Any one entrée as menued
    • Any or all of the sides offered daily
    • One milk
    • Our daily milk offering is:
    • skim milk and 1% reduced fat chocolate milk

Point of Sale (POS) Payment System

We currently utilize a POS system in all of our cafeterias. Students/parents/guardians may deposit money into an account that students access at breakfast/lunch. Deposits are accepted in the lunch line, or checks may be sent directly to my office at 50 Trexler Avenue, Kutztown PA, 19530. Please be sure to place the student I.D. number in the memo area of the check. We continue to accept cash as well. We are able to restrict accounts in terms of ala-carte purchases at the requests of parents/guardians. Please contact my office if you are in need of your child’s account number. Finally, this system guarantees that students will not be overtly identified regarding economic status.

    Free and Reduced Price Meals

In an effort to insure that all children are afforded the opportunity to take part in our lunch and breakfast program we participate in the National School Lunch Program. As a result, all families in the district are afforded the opportunity to apply for free or reduced price meals. If you believe that you may benefit from this program, please complete this application and return it to my office. We process all applications immediately upon receipt and inform the household of the results in a timely fashion. AGAIN, I must stress the fact that children receiving free or reduced price meals are not identified in any way as the confidentiality is ensured through our computerized POS system. Applications for this program are required to be updated each school year on or before September 30th.

I sincerely appreciate the support of our community. We continually strive to improve our program and would like your comments, suggestions, and concerns. I may be reached at 610-683-7346 X5543 or wherring@kasd.org.
