Director of Curriculum Instruction & Professional Development

Mrs. Melissa Devlin
Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Professional Development

Melissa Devlin has been an educator in Berks County for 25 years. Spending the first 14 years in the classroom, she began her career as a secondary English teacher at Governor Mifflin High School and as a reading specialist and English teacher at Wyomissing Area Jr/Sr. High School. Also while in that role she coordinated Response to Intervention (RtI) programming for grades 7-12 and data for grades K-12. She moved into a position of administration with the Berks County Intermediate Unit and found a passion for professional development and curriculum development and how they connect with positive gains for students while constantly working to grow instructional practices. Focused on the philosophy of providing the best possible education for students with diverse needs and backgrounds, she wanted to see the benefits of professional development in a setting where students needed it the most. Moving into a district setting, she built the curriculum and supported the teachers and students of the Antietam School District as Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Literacy. Seeking experience in a larger setting, she also worked in Exeter Township as the Supervisor of Literacy. Through these experiences, she brings knowledge of supporting students and teachers for high achievement in her role as Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Professional Development. She has completed her Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility through Shippensburg University and is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Educational Leadership through Millersville University.

On a more personal note, Mrs. Devlin recently moved into a nearly 200-year old farmhouse in Exeter Township and spends time with her family working to renovate and restore the historic property. Her husband, a teacher of 27 years, and her two adolescent children love to travel, hike, explore local history and are all avid readers. They also enjoy spending time with friends and family across the country. She is excited to learn and grow as a professional in the Kutztown Area School District!
