Dr. George F. Fiore's Welcome Message

  • Dear Kutztown Area School District Family,

I am truly honored to serve as the Superintendent for the Kutztown Area School District. I would like to thank our staff, parents, students, and community members that have welcomed me since my arrival on August 1st. I look forward to spending the next few months learning even more about our School District and community.

The Kutztown Area School District is committed to providing a quality education for each and every student. Our Vision Statement, "Maximize potential, embrace change, and create the future" is the guiding force for our continuous improvement. It is clear in my first months here at KASD that our staff is student-centered and future focused. Additionally, our School Board is committed to improving the quality of education for our students while being fiscally responsible. I am excited to join the Kutztown Area School District Family!

As part of my entry to the school district, much of my work has been guided by author Stephen Covey's leadership principle, "Seek first to understand, then to be understood." The first 100 days of my tenure will be spent meeting with stakeholders and collecting data. I invite you to join in the various focus group meetings, surveys, and dialogue to discuss the current state of our District and our hopes for the future. Together, we will continue to make Kutztown great.

The first phase of the entry plan, Transition (August to October), is complete. I was fortunate to work with our outgoing Superintendent, Mrs. Kathy Metrick, who served our school district in exemplary fashion. I have learned a tremendous amount from Mrs. Metrick and I wish her well in her retirement.

The next phase of the entry plan is to Listen and Learn (October to December). I invite you to complete our Stakeholder Survey which encompasses numerous areas. The survey will take about 15-25 minutes to complete in one sitting. Additionally, I will be holding several "Coffee and Conversation" meetings. The purpose of these meetings is to open lines of communication between the school district and the community. Coffee, tea, and light refreshments will be provided. The meetings will be on:

    • Tuesday, October, 11th, at 9:30AM to 10:45AM at the District Administration Building
    • Wednesday, October 19th from 9:30AM to 10:45AM at Kutztown Area Middle School Cafeteria
    • Friday, October 28th from 9:30AM to 10:45AM in the Kutztown Elementary School Cafeteria
    • Tuesday, November 1st from 7:00PM to 8:15PM in the Greenwich-Lenhartsviille Elementary School Cafeteria
    • Thursday, November 3rd from 9:30AM to 10:45AM in the Greenwich-Lenhartsviille Elementary School Cafeteria
    • Tuesday, November 15th from 7:00PM to 8:15PM in the Kutztown Area High School Cafeteria
There will be light refreshments provided. Please RSVP so that we have enough seating and refreshments on the RSVP form. In the event that there is low attendance or the need to reschedule/postpone, you will receive an email via the RSVP form.

The last portion of the entry plan is the Planning and Sharing Phase (December to March). During this time I will analyze all stakeholder feedback information and data collected to develop a collaborative vision for our School District. In March/April there will be a community presentation to discuss the findings and next steps. I look forward to learning as much as possible over the next few months.

As we embark on this journey together, I promise to work in the best interests of our students while fostering a collaborative and transparent culture. I would also like to invite you to volunteer in our schools, join our parent organizations, and become involved in our community. Together, we make Kutztown great!

I look forward to serving as your Superintendent. Welcome back and have a wonderful school year!

    Sincerely,
    George F. Fiore, Ed.D.
