August 1, 2018
Dear Parent/Guardian and Student,
Welcome to Kutztown Area High School’s 2018-2019 school year. We are excited about the many great opportunities that exist for our students. We look forward to working with you, as we continue to build upon our school’s excellent work ethic and reputation, which embodies the spirit of the Kutztown community. The future is bright, and the class of 2019 will lead the school with its own new and exciting initiatives. We’d like to thank you for your continued support and vision as a community that is excited about education, as we move towards completion of the E-Wing renovation. This year, Kutztown High School will see a continual increase of course offerings, including; AP Computer Science and Introduction to Engineering. Please join us in November, as our performing arts students present “Annie”. This year, we also encourage our seniors to participate in the third year of our Community-Based Internship Program. Additional information regarding this program can be found in the guidance office.
9th Grade and New Student Parent Laptop Orientation
On Wednesday, August 15, 2018 there will be an orientation for all 9th grade and new-to-the-district parents in the High School Gym at 6:30pm. This session will educate parents about school-issued laptops, insurance, policies, computer care, and Internet safety. Paperwork and policies will be distributed and explained.
Since laptops are thoroughly integrated into most courses, we would like our students to receive laptops as soon as possible. The 9th grade students will receive introductory training in their computer applications class and be allowed to take their laptops home when the training is completed and all paperwork has been submitted. For upperclassmen pick-up, please see the schedule below.
Remember to bring the signed laptop signature sheet along with you. No laptop may be issued without it.
High School Cafeteria:
Juniors & Seniors August 15th 12:00pm – 6:00pm
Sophomores August 16th 12:00pm – 6:00pm
Any student still owing an obligation will not be issued a laptop until the obligation has been met. If you are unsure if your child has an outstanding obligation, please call the main office at 610-683-7346.
Please look over the enclosed schedule. Student requests were considered when building the master schedule. However, core requirements take priority over non-core subjects in scheduling students. Any schedule change requests must be made prior to the start of school; changes must follow the drop/add procedures found in the Kutztown Area High School’s Course Selection Guide posted on the building website. The guidance counselors will be available to resolve scheduling concerns on August 14th from 9:00am to 12:00pm and 4:00pm to 6:00pm in the High School Cafeteria. Your schedule does not include pyramid assignments or academic support. Each student will receive a new schedule on the first day of school.
Please note: Pyramid will be moving to the end of the day. This shift was made to provide all students with the opportunity to access school and staff resources. In order to accommodate the pyramid adjustments BCTC students will be departing from the middle school at 7:30am. BCTC students will exit the bus at the middle school and promptly board their appropriate bus.
All students are expected to be in attendance by 7:45am. The building opens at 7:00am in the cafeteria lobby. Any student who is not in their homeroom by 7:45am will be marked absent. All tardy students must report to the high school office, before entering their classroom.
We look forward to another successful school year and partnering with you to ensure your child’s success. Please read the student handbook, which can be found on our school’s website, for details regarding our school’s policies and procedures.
We are excited to welcome the following new staff members to KAHS: Ms. Jennifer Mason as our new Biology Teacher and Mrs. Beth Johnson as our new Long-Term Substitute in our Business Department.
