The Kutztown Area School District is invested in immersing all of our students in Kindergarten through high school with experiences in computer science, coding, robotics, and computationl thinking. Our approach is to prepare our students to engage in a process of design and systems thinking in order to formulate and solve problems through computing technologies. The coding curriculum is sequential, progressing from offline activities, to block-based programming, to text-based programming using various languages and applications.
Our elementary computer science curriculum, as part of our Innovation & Design Studio (click here for more information), is designed to be fun and engaging, using Code.org’s progression of CS Fundamentals courses that blend online and "unplugged" non-computer activities to teach students computational thinking, problem solving, programming concepts and digital citizenship. The middle school courses continue this sequence of learning with more complex thinking routines and programming languages, culminating at the high school with opportunities for elective courses in computer programming including AP Computer Science Principles.
