Welcome to Mrs. Ortiz-Eichert's Classroom Site - Life Skills Teacher

  • My name is Jessica Ortiz-Eichert.  The students call me Mrs. Eichert.  This is my 13th year of teaching.  I have a Dual Degree in Special Education K-12 & Elementary Education K-6 from Kutztown University, Masters Degree in Classroom Technology from Wilkes University, and a Masters Degree in Science of Instruction (Principal Certification) from Drexel University. I’ve enjoyed 2 ½ years as a middle school self-contained 6th-8th grade Learning Support teacher, 3 ½ years as a high school self-contained 9th-12th grade Autistic Support teacher, and 7 years as a high school self-contained 9th-12th grade Life Skills teacher.

I love teaching the Life Skills Program at Kutztown High School.  Life skills include a wide range of knowledge and skill interactions believed to be essential for adult independent living.  The goal of this program is to prepare students to make a successful transition to adult life. Students will be encouraged to establish an independent lifestyle and either enter post-secondary training or secure a job.

Therefore, the life skills curriculum approach will blend academic, daily living, personal/social, and occupational skills into integrated lessons designed to help the students learn to function independently in society. To make this program work I ask for an open line of communication and partnership between the parents and myself.  This will be key to making this program successful.

I look forward to an exciting and successful school year!  If you have any questions and/or concerns, please do not hesitate to call (610) 683-7346, write in your child's communication log, or e-mail me at jortizeichert@kasd.org .
